The permitting page states CS/CS/HB 803, effective July 1, 2026. Single-family work under $7,500 can skip a permit when the request is in writing and the job stays one project. Electrical, plumbing, mechanical, gas, and structural work still need one, including work in a flood hazard area. The page counts windows, doors, roofing, siding, soffits, and sheds as structural, and a detached shed of 50 square feet or less can skip a permit. A temporary flood barrier is exempt only outside a Special Flood Hazard Area.

The county public search, opened October 20, 2026, is https://building.scgov.net/. A house in unincorporated Sarasota County uses the Sarasota County permit search. A house inside the City of Sarasota uses the City of Sarasota permit search.
